A Christian teenager was shot and killed in Sheikhupura after reportedly confronting a man accused of harassing a minor member of his family.
The killing of 16-year-old Daud Masih has left his family devastated and renewed concerns about the safety and access to justice of vulnerable Christian communities in Pakistan.
SHEIKHUPURA, Pakistan - A 16-year-old Christian boy was shot dead in broad daylight in Sheikhupura after reportedly defending a minor relative from alleged harassment.
Daud Masih was killed on April 8, 2026, in Bhikki village while returning from a local market with family members. According to reports, an armed man identified as Muhammad Junaid allegedly opened fire, striking Daud in the chest. Two relatives who were with him reportedly escaped after seeking cover.
Emergency services transported the teenager to District Headquarters Hospital Sheikhupura, where he was pronounced dead.
According to the family, the incident followed weeks of threats and tensions. Daud had reportedly confronted the accused approximately two months earlier after learning of allegations that a minor Christian relative was being solicited. The confrontation allegedly led to threats against the teenager.
Daud's mother, Fehmida Bibi, reportedly sought help in defusing the situation by approaching the accused's family. However, tensions continued, and the family says threats against Daud persisted before the fatal shooting.
The murder has caused deep grief and concern within the local Christian community. Daud was the eldest son in a financially struggling family, and his death has left his parents facing both emotional devastation and increased economic hardship.
Police registered a murder case against Muhammad Junaid under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code. According to the report, the accused was arrested and transferred to Sheikhupura Jail on judicial remand while legal proceedings continue.
The family is now seeking legal assistance and urging authorities to ensure that the case proceeds without intimidation, pressure, or unnecessary delay.
Christian Persecution Relief Pakistan (CPRP) strongly condemns the brutal killing of Daud Masih and calls for a transparent, impartial, and effective prosecution of those responsible.
The murder of a 16-year-old boy who reportedly stood up to protect a vulnerable minor relative is a heartbreaking reminder of the dangers faced by members of Pakistan's religious minority communities. CPRP believes that the safety and security of every Pakistani citizen, regardless of religious identity, must be protected equally under the law.
CPRP is particularly concerned that vulnerable Christian families can face enormous obstacles when pursuing justice, including fear, intimidation, financial hardship, and unequal access to legal protection. Justice must not depend on a victim's social status, economic position, or religious background.
“We call upon the authorities to ensure that Daud Masih's family receives full legal protection and that this case is pursued fairly and without delay,” CPRP stated. “No grieving family should be forced to fight alone for justice after losing a child to violence.”
CPRP further urges Pakistani authorities to strengthen protections for religious minorities and vulnerable children, ensure accountability for acts of violence, and safeguard victims' families from coercion or pressure during legal proceedings.
Daud Masih should be remembered not merely as another victim of violence, but as a young life tragically lost while reportedly standing up for the protection of a vulnerable member of his family.
